Lasting Aid Training was started in 2007 with the aim of delivering training that was of a higher quality, at a better price delivered at your convenience. We offer a wide range of first aid courses through our accredited partners to ensure that we can deliver the right course for you.
Our aim is to offer the various types of First Aid Training to any individuals who would like to learn how to try and save a life. Too many incidents have the worst possible outcome because the people around did not have the knowledge or training to assist. We aim to explain the different courses that are out there as well as what we offer. We explore a bit of the history of first aid in South Africa as well as the different regulations governing first aid training. This is in the aim of helping you find the course that you need no matter if you are a grandmother who is baby-sitting a new grand child or if you are the First Aider at a major corporation.
All first aid courses essentially teach the basics skills needed to recognise certain conditions and then render life saving care. Where they differ is how they are taught. Or rather the difference between the various courses is the regulatory framework governing the standards that ensure that all people with a certain certificate are able to perform certain skills.
If you are needing to do a course because there is legislation that requires you to have it (for instance the Department of Labour Act) then you need to complete a First Aid Level 1 course. This course was originally drafted and regulated by the Department of Labour and now falls under a dual mandate from the Department of Education and the SAQA Act. The Health and Welfare SETA is the authority responsible for maintaining the standard of these courses.
If you need to do a first aid course because you feel it is a good thing to have, then you have a little more flexibility in the type of course you can choose. There are a variety of short courses, a few hours in length that will teach you all you need to know. At Lasting Aid Training we offer courses compiled by the American Heart Association and are run under the auspices of Emergency Care Education. These courses have a high standard and have excellent teaching materials and methodology and we highly recommend them.
We hope we have given you a little insight into what you need to consider. We offer both a Family and Friends CPR and First Aid course (3 hours) as well as a First Aid Level 1 course (16 hours). The Family and Friends CPR and First Aid Course is a combination of 2 American Heart Association courses and Lasting Aid Training is a registered training provider with Emergency Care Education. The Level 1 course is presented with course material by Bestcare Training Services and they are accredited with the Department of Labour.
